2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC Models Set New Standards in SUV Performance
July 31 2023, Mercedes-Benz Rive-Sud
A new benchmark has been set in the luxury compact SUV market with the latest offerings from Mercedes-AMG, the 2024 GLC models. With the AMG GLC 43 and the pioneering AMG GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE – the first performance hybrid SUV from AMG – these vehicles are set to redefined performance expectations for a compact luxury SUV. Joining the redesigned 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC, both AMG models provide the same benefits found on the GLC 300 including more space, improved connectivity technology and more safety features. They are also more refined overall, and the interior has been fully redesigned. These improvements join a range of F1-inspired dynamic enhancements that ensure the most engaging AMG experience ever.
Performance
At the heart of these SUVs lies the powerful AMG M139l 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. This engine is combined with an electric exhaust gas turbocharger, featuring an integrated electric motor directly on the turbocharger shaft. This blend of advanced technologies ensures broad response across the entire rpm range. Moreover, higher torque at lower rpms may lead to superior agility and quicker acceleration, setting a potential new standard in the performance SUV market.
The power outputs of the AMG GLC 43 and GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE models are particularly noteworthy. The AMG GLC 43 delivers a substantial output of 416 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, with an additional boost of 13 hp provided by the RSG (belt-driven starter generator). The GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE takes it a step further, producing an impressive 469 hp and 402 lb-ft of torque. This performance is supplemented by a permanently excited synchronous electric motor and a high-performance battery, delivering a system output of 671 hp and a peak system torque of 752 lb-ft. The power from these engines is transmitted via the AMG SPEEDSHIFT® MCT 9G transmission, which replaces the conventional torque converter with a wet start-off clutch for quicker accelerator pedal response.
Advanced Dynamics
The GLC models come integrated with the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs. These programs offer a range of vehicle characteristics from comfortable to sporty, providing diverse driving experiences. Integrated within this is the AMG DYNAMICS driving dynamics control system, which is designed to enhance the stabilizing functions of the ESP® and deliver agile steering. The ESP® system can be adjusted to three stages: "On," "Sport," and "Off," providing drivers with adaptability to varied driving conditions and preferences.
Both the GLC models are outfitted with the AMG RIDE CONTROL steel spring suspension, paired with an Adaptive Damping System. This duo promises sporty driving dynamics without compromising on long-distance journey comfort. The system adjusts the damping at each wheel as per the current driving conditions, aiming to enhance ride quality, comfort, and driving safety.
A standout feature in the GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE is the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL active roll stabilization system. This system is designed to compensate for body movements electromechanically, a departure from conventional rigid anti-roll bars. It aims not only to reduce rolling movements during cornering but also to enable a more precise tuning of steering and load cycle behavior.
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLC models represent a blend of dynamic, precise, and feedback-rich driving experience. They offer sporty driving dynamics and high comfort, even for long-distance journeys. The AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs provide a tailored driving experience, further bolstered by the state-of-the-art AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with Adaptive Damping System and active roll stabilization. The AMG GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE, with its AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL active roll stabilization, sets itself apart, solidifying its position at the forefront of the performance SUV segment.
