Style
First, a word about styling. It's impossible not to recognize a GLS 600. With a two-tone approach, a three-pointed star on the hood and a unique grille that exudes luxury, this is beyond a Mercedes-Benz product. As you approach the vehicle, a wide, electrically retractable step deploys for easy access. And while we're not talking about a colossal SUV, it lowers slightly when you open the door. The suspension can be lowered further for loading.
Onboard Experience
As you close the doors (which happens smoothly and automatically), you're amazed at the quality of the interior lighting. Mercedes-Benz has mastered the art of using colour-changing light strips to create an atmosphere. These run across the dashboard, through the doors, across the floor and all the way to the rear, encircling the entire cabin. You can choose a single colour for the ambience or a multicolour animation that combines blue, purple and red.
As an option, you can drape the cocoon in rich piano black accents. You'll also find Maybach logos all over the cabin so that the signature is obvious. Even the pedalboard gets a textured metallic finish like no other.
The perforated Nappa leather seats are soft, and, of course, heated and ventilated. Adjustments are unlimited, from side bolsters to lumbar supports. The amount of adjustment you can make to find your comfort zone is beyond comprehension. Of course, the massage function is included, for the back, shoulders, legs, and so on.
The Rear
However, as princely as the comfort is in the front, it's royal when you move into the back. In the normal configuration, five seats are offered, but for the ultimate experience, the four-seat layout will take you to seventh heaven.
These seats look like lounge chairs, heated and cooled with massage functions and an attached leather head cushion, as well as a second cushion that you can use as you please, just like at home. The seats in question recline like business class seats with deployable footrests.
But that's nothing. Between the seats is a space that can hide champagne flutes if you wish. And the champagne? Maybach has thought of everything: a refrigerator, also available as an option, takes up about a sixth of the cargo space. The choice is yours.
Just like on an airplane, fold-down shelves are attached to the front seats under the entertainment screens, so it's easy to have a bite to eat in full comfort. And why not while enjoying the exquisite sound of the Burmester audio system, which has 27 speakers!
Yet, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Heated (and cooled) cup holders, control of the vehicle's multimedia screen from the rear seats (you own the vehicle, after all), a four-zone climate control system, a screen that can be removed and act as a tablet for your tasks, augmented reality navigation; in short, this vehicle lacks nothing. NOTHING!
